Location is key!

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph my in laws friends. They are a really nice couple, who made me laugh and I loved spending the morning with them. I am still pretty new to outdoor photography and was open to trying out new locations. She had heard about a great place out near red rock to take photos so I thought, yeah, let’s give it a try. Apparently a lot of people take their pictures there and it is supposed to be amazing. Which I am sure it is if you don’t mind breaking rules. I am big on keeping rules and at this place there were signs everywhere that said please do not get off the boardwalk to preserve the natural environment, so to me that means you don’t get off the boardwalk. Well that is all fine and dandy except for the fact that I felt very limited in where I was able to photograph the couple and the lighting outside was very harsh, casting a lot of shadows. I did get quite a few good photos taken of the couple, and offered to redo them for the couple because I felt like I could do better. The best part of the experience for me though was the value of knowing the location you are going to photograph a couple in, go ahead of time and walk around the location to get ideas and never go somewhere that neither me or my client has been to ahead of time! Like I said, I did get some good images and here are my favorites from that day! I look forward to working with this couple again!
